Projects: “In the Trenches” (a novelette), and “The Right Words” (a mini-lesson you can find here).
Notes: It’s my tenth day working on In the Trenches, and I’ve finally finished the first draft. Tomorrow I’ll start on another story set in the same science fiction universe. I also finished up a mini-lesson I’m posting in Strip Mining the Muse as a guideline for what kind of mini-lessons I’m looking for in the newsletter. Feel free to check it out by clicking the link above.
Reading: Nancy Kress’ two fantastic books on writing, Beginnings, Middles, & Ends, and Characters, Emotion, & Viewpoint are constantly on my desk, and I read from them daily. Along with that, today is my first day trying out Ray Bradbury’s suggestion to read 1 short story, 1 essay, and 1 poem every day for a thousand days, and I’ll start that journey with Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang. Popular Science magazine for the essay, and a book of Shakespeare for the poem.
Please feel free to comment below with your daily roundup! I look forward to hearing from you all. Did you get your writing done today?
